Home Remedies to Get Rid of Acne Scars

Most cases of acne are reported to affect teenagers. However, this does not mean that being an adult makes you acne free. Homemade acne scar removal mitigates the disfiguring effects of acne. These remedies provide an option against acne scars that is both accessible and affordable.

The options available for removal of acne scars produce different results. Some remedies are tasking in their application and their results are minimal. The reputation of these remedies is usually over exaggerated. Others promise mythical results that can be very confusing to the end-users. Fortunately, there are options that will give you tangible results. Some remedies offer you quick, practical and effective results.

Most homemade ingredients for removing acne scars are readily available in most kitchens. These homemade remedies are free from the harmful toxic effects of industrial ingredients. The extracts used in these remedies provide vital healing solutions for ugly scars.

Citrus Based Remedies

The citric acid present in vegetables and fruits is very vital for lightening the affected spots. Juice from citric fruits can be applied on the face or skin. This can be left on the skin during the night and rinsed off the following morning. If you keep up this routine you can get your scars faded and have your skin redness toned down.

Lemon juice is a much preferred choice for your skin care needs. Lemon juice has long been used for conditions that include treating blemishes, acne scar and age spots. Applying lemon juice on the skin boosts the elasticity of your skin while at the same time improving its complexion and skin tone. This acid sterilizes the skin effectively and stalls bacterial infection which accelerates the spread of acne pimples.

Lemon juice has a soothing and refreshing effect when applied on the skin. The juice also acts as a natural toner and cleanser especially when left on the skin overnight. If you require a natural toning effect, it is also advisable to leave a slice of lemon on your skin overnight.
Tomatoes too are rich in vitamin A and C reserves. Vitamin C impedes the secretion of sebum which is responsible for promoting acne breakouts. Wearing a tomato pulp mask overnight can fade acne scars.

These vitamins benefit your skin by rejuvenating and slowing down the aging effect. The tomato therapy needs ample time before its effects can set in. It is necessary to maintain a skin care routine regularly to achieve a skin beautifying effect.

Lemon Juice Toner- This rich source of vitamin helps to get rid of free radicals from your skin. The potent acidic content of lemon juice stimulates cell regeneration and helps in replacing dead skin cells. Repairing the damaged skins accelerates the growth of new skin.

Topical and Effective Treatments For Acne

Acne is caused by the effects of hormones on the pilosebaceous unit that consist of hair follicle, which is a sebaceous gland and a hair.

Various gels, lotions, and creams are used to treat acne. Different preparations work in different ways. Many topical medications - creams, gels, and lotions - are used to treat acne. The most commonly used topical acne treatments include benzoyl peroxide, retinoid, topical acne antibiotics, azelaic acid, and combination topical products.

Benzoyl Peroxide-This can prove beneficial as benzoyl peroxide can kill the acne bacteria and open the blocked oil gland pores. There are a huge variety of products available in the market and you can use the lower concentrations as well but before using the high concentration you should seek the prescription of doctor.

Topical retinoid-This is the effective treatment for acne. It provides indirect antibacterial effects. It creates strong comedolytic and anticomedogenic activity. Tretinoin is a prototype drug, which is an acid of vitamin A and this drug has shown to normalize desquamation of the follicular epithelium, promote drainage of comedones and inhibit new comedone formation.

Tazarotene- it is a type of designer retinoid and a part of vitamin A family as like other members of vitamin A family this is also called retinoid. It is an approved treatment from the Health Canada. To use this for the treatment of acne you should apply a small quantity to the entire face but avoid the areas that can cause irritation as eyes and nose. Wash the face after 30 minutes and it will provide the relief from the irritation that is caused by the acne and other skin problems.

Tretinion- This topical treatment for acne is considered the effective method of acne treatment. This is a vitamin A option derivative and is used for the treatment of sun damaged skin and acne. A cream and ointment, which is having content of tretinion, should be used before going to bed and areas near to eyes and nose are avoidable areas. You can apply the cream on the chin and cheeks because it may be irritating for some people who have sensitive skin.

Azelaic acid- This method is used to unplugged the blocked pores. It has some qualities like retinoid so that it is used o treat both blackheads and whiteheads. It is good for treating acne and providing less irritation.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads

There are a few approaches we can take when trying to get rid of blackheads. Some more effective than others. The most obvious one is to squeeze them out, but you've got to make sure you do it right, and, as we mentioned earlier, not damage your skin in the process. So start off with the more gentle methods first.

The Steaming Method

Firstly, we need to encourage those clogged pores to open up a bit and make it easier to remove the blackhead. You should do the following process first before embarking on any sort of blackhead removal attempt.

Fill a bowl up with hot water (hot but not boiling), place you head above the water so that your face can take advantage of the steam. You may want to drape a towel over the back of you head so that it traps the steam in, giving you the full benefit. Stay like this for about 5 minutes until you face is wet with perspiration and condensation. Your pores should be opened up now, ready to safely get rid of those pesky blackheads.

There is a wide selection of products available online or from your local pharmacy which are especially made for easier, more effective face steaming, it might be worth checking them out too.

Have a cotton ball or cotton make-up pad handy and dip it into the hot water, squeeze off any excess water then run it over the affected areas of your skin. Rinse the pad off in the water and repeat the process two or three times, ensure the pad remains hot. This should remove any dislodged blackheads that had became loose during the facial steaming. You may want to cleanse after using this steaming method.

Exfoliates and Face Scrubs

As we mentioned earlier on in this article, using a good quality face scrub or exfoliate will not only help prevent blackheads by removing dead skin cells, but it will also help remove any blackheads which have all ready formed. It's important not to overdo it when it comes to scrubs. Once a week will be plenty.

Blackhead Removal Tools

There's a wide range of blackhead remover tools available on the market. If you are going to use a removal tool, then it's best to reserve it for the more stubborn and larger blackheads that the steaming process may have failed to get rid of. The standard blackhead remover tool basically works by applying pressure the skin around a blackhead, forcing it to pop out. As with the other techniques described, make sure you use the steaming method beforehand.

Another tool similar to the Blackhead Remover is the Blackhead Vacuum/Extractor which basically sucks the little fellas straight out of the pores.

Pore Strips

With Pore Strips you simply apply the strip to the affected area, leave it for 10-15 minutes, then remove. The strip should take with it the top of the blackhead, reducing their appearance. The effectiveness of pore strips will vary from person to person and some people find them a little too abrasive. They won't prevent blackheads or acne, but they can help you reduce their appearance. Again, this process will be made a lot easier and gentler if you steam you face first.

Another product which works on a similar basis to the Pore Strip is the Salicylic Acid Gel Peel. Although Salicylic Acid Peels are primarily for acne treatment, many people have had great results using it for blackheads too.

Waxing

Next time you're at the beauticians, ask her to wax your nose. It may sound funny but beauticians are used to doing this sort of thing. It works in a similar way to the Pore Strips.

Fingers

It's not really recommended you do this, but if you have to go down the route of squeezing blackheads out with your fingers, make sure you have opened your pores first by steaming your face. Wrap you fingers with soft tissue paper as this will protect you skin from being damaged by your fingernails. Slowly squeeze and manipulate the skin around the blackhead until in works itself out. Make sure you wash you face afterwards with a mild anti-bacterial soap.
