The foul smell that comes out from one’s mouth is generally referred to the term ‘bad breath’. When food particles remain in the mouth after meals, bacteria’s develop and these bacteria discharge sulphur compounds which gives a bad smell.

Onions and garlic when eaten leave behind a strong smell in the mouth, if not gargled or brushed properly it can lead to bad breath. It is advisable to brush or gargle after every meal to avoid bad breath. Chewing tobacco, smoking or alcohol also leaves a bad smell. If the tongue isn’t cleaned well, bacteria’s develop leading to bad smell so make sure you clean your tongue properly.

Home remedies to cure bad breath
  • Brush your teeth after every meal or at least twice a day. Keep gargling your mouth. Make sure you clean your tongue properly.
  • A simple home remedy is to chew few mint leaves to avoid bad breath.
  • When you are gargling use warm water and dissolve little baking soda, this will be helpful.
  • Curd or yogurt can cure bad breath when taken for about six-seven weeks.
  • Use lemon juice for gargling for best results. Few drops of lemon and water mix it and use this water for gargling.
  • Make tea from fenugreek (methi) seeds and have it to cure bad smell.
  • After every meal chew at least one clove to let go of the bad smell.
  • Pineapple juices acts as a natural remedy to cure bad breath.
  • An apple a day keeps doctor away!! How true, eat apples daily as apple cleans the mouth and purifies it.
  • Chew some cardamom seeds after meals; this is an instant breath freshener.
  • Chew sunflower seeds and then have a glass of water to release the bad smell.
  • Have parsley to avoid foul smell.
  • Have fruits like papaya or guava to lessen the bad breath.
  • People who have dentures or braces should be more careful. Make sure to clean them properly after every use to avoid bad breath.
