Simple Exercises for Healthy Eyes

Eyesight is the most important sense to a majority of people. We rely on our vision to help us do virtually everything, from getting dressed to cooking meals to caring for children and pets to driving to performing our job at work. Without the ability to see, our lives would be dramatically different.

That's why it's important to maintain good vision. We exercise our bodies to keep them in optimal condition. Fortunately, you can do the same with your eyes. Here are some quick and easy exercises you can do to keep your eyesight free from deterioration.

Start with Warm-ups

You should never engage in intense exercise without warming up your body, right? The same goes for your eyes. Start by cupping your palms and covering your eyes. Imagine total darkness. When you see only blackness, uncover your eyes and repeat several times.

Eye Movements

Your parents may not have liked it when they said something you didn't like and you rolled your eyes at them. However, eye rolling is actually a good exercise for your eyes. This exercise is easy to do. Just roll the eyes clockwise for a minute, then switch direction and go counterclockwise for another minute. This helps your eyes maintain strength and agility.

Other eye movements you can do include up and down movements. Move your eyes up and down eight times, then move them from side to side, repeating eight more times. Be careful not to force your eyes too far in any one direction, as you could make your eyesight worse.

Focus Exercises

Pick two objects - one that is less than 30 feet away and one that is more than 150 feet away. Focus on the distant object for about 15 seconds. Next, focus on the closer object for the same amount of time. Go back to the distant object and repeat five times.

Another focus exercise to do is to hold a pencil or other object in front of you, at an arm's length away. Slowly bring the object to your nose and follow it with your eyes until you can no longer focus. Repeat 10 times.

Causes and Treatments of Burning Eyes

Burning eyes affects about 30% of reading glasses wearers at one time or another. It is the commonest symptom of dry eyes. Most just suffer in silence, but there are simple steps that can be taken to help the condition.

Eye burning with discharge is burning, itching, or drainage from the eye of any substance other than tears. Lots of different things can make your eyes burn. Smoke, pollen, or a viral infection such as a cold or the flu can cause eyes to itch, burn, water, and redden. In these cases the burning and itching usually go away when the irritant is removed.

Sometimes burning and itching eyes are due to environmental pollutants that might be eliminated by social action. If secondhand cigarette smoke is annoying, say so. If an industrial plant in the area is polluting, contact the EPA for solutions.

Unprotected eyes can also be burned by the ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, tanning lamps or arc welding equipment. Like sunburns to the skin, you won't feel pain until hours later, when the eyes and the area around them swell. Near-UV rays can damage your retina. The risk of sunburn to the eyes is very high when sunlight is reflected off water, sand or snow.

Causes of Burning eyes
  • Chronic dry or burning eyes can be caused by age, some medications, and disease. Itchy, burning eyelids can also result from infection.
  • Tears bathe the eye, washing out dust and debris and keeping the eye moist. They also contain enzymes that neutralize the microorganisms that colonize the eye. Tears are essential for good eye health.
  • Allergy is caused by an oversensitive immune system, which leads to a misdirected immune response. The immune system normally protects the body against harmful substances, such as bacteria and viruses. It reacts to substances (allergens) that are generally harmless and in most people do not cause a problem.
  • Sometimes burning and itching eyes are due to environmental pollutants that might be eliminated by social action. If secondhand cigarette smoke is annoying, say so. If an industrial plant in the area is polluting, contact the EPA for solutions.
  • Pink eye or viral conjunctivitis causes a red or bloodshot eye and excessive tearing. If you suspect pink eye, remember to wash your hands often, and avoid touching the unaffected eye. The infection will run its course in about 10 days.
  • During the normal aging process, our bodies and our eyes produce gradually less and less oil. This reduction in oil in the tear film results in quicker evaporation leading to the formation of dry spots on our eyes.
Treatment for Burning eyes
  • Artificial tears used four-to-six times a day can also relieve symptoms. Avoid over-the-counter eyedrops other than artificial tears because they will eventually make symptoms worse.
  • Antihistamines in the form of eye-drops or ointments may be prescribed. Cortisone-like eye ointments are not often prescribed. These medications will reduce many types of inflammation, but can make certain infections, such as herpes, worse.
  • Conserving the tears in your own eyes is another approach to keeping the eyes moist. Tears drain out of the eye through a small canal into the nose (that is why your nose runs when you cry). Your ophthalmologist may close these canals either temporarily or permanently. This closure conserves your own tears and makes artificial tears last longer.

Seven Ways to Wipe Eye Wrinkles

Because the skin around the eye is very thin and is always the first to begin to show wrinkles, eye wrinkles can appear at almost any age. They will also appear more quickly if a person has a substantial amount of sun damage (sun worshippers beware!).

Prevention Of Dreaded Eye Wrinkles

Old Sol Gifts You With Eye Wrinkles: the best thing to do to try to prevent eye wrinkles is to put sunscreen on before you go outside. Not only will it protect you from getting skin cancer, but it can also help prevent eye wrinkles from forming.

Water, Water & More Water: one way you can reduce, or even eliminate, eye wrinkles naturally is by increasing your intake of water (no, coffee, tea and soft drinks don't count - sorry). When you drink water you are hydrating your skin, keeping it lush and supple. When you don't drink enough water then your skin will become dry, and more prone to wrinkles - think of the cracks in the desert when it hasn't rained in months.

Fruit Is Loaded With Water: drinking water is very hard for some people, so another way you can try to keep your skin healthy is by eating plenty of fruit. A lot of fruits, like grapes and watermelon, are a good way to keep the skin hydrated.

Cukes Reduce Puffiness: one good food to use on your eyes is the cucumber. You can slice two pieces and place them on your eyes for a time and this will reduce any swelling. Reducing puffiness also relaxes the eyes and relaxation equals fewer or shallower wrinkles.

Eggs Aren't Just For Poaching, Frying Or Scrambling: eggs are also very good for treating eye wrinkles. The most beneficial part of the egg to use is the white because egg whites will tighten the skin and lessen the appearance of eye wrinkles. Simply place egg white on your eye wrinkles and lie down and relax for a bit.

Exhaustion Circles Just Aren't That Attractive: another way to improve the appearance of your skin and get rid of all kinds of wrinkles is by getting the appropriate amount of sleep each night. When a human body does not get the right amount of sleep it can not only damage its health, but it can cause the skin to age prematurely, causing unsightly wrinkles to form.

High Quality Anti Aging Creams Fight All Wrinkles: all of these anti-wrinkle strategies are effective, but there's no doubt that they require patience. So if you're in a hurry to minimize or eliminate those aging eye wrinkles, then consider a facial cream that includes quality ingredients. When you "feed" your skin properly it will stay healthy and will be tight and firm. Two of the best are:

1. Collagen: is the most powerful substance known to help keep skin stay young, soft and vibrant. Naturally produced by the body, we produce less collagen as we age and by replenishing this critical substance, we kiss off old Father Time.

2. Matrixyl: its job is to promote a natural increase in collagen production and has been clinically shown to reduce the number and depth of wrinkles.

NOTE: Under eye skin is very delicate, so it is best to apply the anti aging cream by gently tapping it on with one finger. When you apply it this way you will not cause further eye wrinkles to form.

Tips to Get rid of Styes

A sty is an acute infection or inflammation of the secretory glands of the eyelids. A sty also may arise from an infected hair follicle at the base of an eyelash. It is sometimes referred to as a pigpen or "pig parlor." Pigsties are generally fenced areas of bare dirt and/or mud.

It is caused by bacteria that normally live peacefully on the eyelid skin surface. It is a red, painful lump on the edge or inside of your eyelid that may look like a boil or a pimple.

One of the most common reasons that Staphysagria is used is the ailments from suppressing anger. Anger is not well tolerated in the modern world. Initially, the anger may be suppressed, so much so that the person actually feels as if they are not an angry person.at all. This is all too common in children.

A sty usually starts as a sensitive, red, swollen area on the edge of the eyelid at the base of an eyelash. An internal hordeolum has the same symptoms as a stye, but it grows deeper inside the eyelid.A chalazion grows more slowly, deeper inside the eyelid than a stye. Though it usually does not cause pain, a chalazion may last for several months. It may form a firm lump under the skin of the eyelid, and the inflammation and swelling may spread to the area surrounding the eye.

Here it is in three simple steps
  • Place a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into a cup and add a small of amount boiling water. Stir thoroughly.
  • Take a clean flannel and allow to soak up some of the liquid. As hot as you can stand it place the flannel on the stye.
  • Repeat this process 5 or 6 times.
The hot compress will definitely help the infection. Apply as much warmth as you can bear and then get down to some warm loving with a soft and clean piece of cloth. Do this as often as you can throughout the day.

Tenderness, pain, and redness are the first signs of a stye manifesting. Itching, swelling, watering of the eye, sensitivity to light, and discomfort while blinking will soon follow, and then a yellowish bump will become visible in most prominent cases. It can occur to any area on the eye.

In some cases rosacea can cause irritation to the eyes. Symptoms can include stinging or itchy eyes or eye lid problems such as cysts and styes.

Tips for Eye and Vision Care

You can enjoy your happy life by seeing this beautiful nature, only if you have a good eye sight. So good eye care habit can be helpful to maintain the eye sight and also to improve the defective eye sight.

Good Eye & vision care tips:

Practice Distance seeing (more than 20 feet's away):
The human eye was not designed by creation for extended use in close-work (reading, computers, factory work, sewing etc). Gazing into the distance is the natural position of the eye (20 or more feet away). Eye muscles RELAX when distance seeing. So it is always good for your eye and vision, if you regularly practice distance viewing or gazing.

Avoid Close Work during and immediately after Meals:
During digestion, blood are drawn to the stomach for digestion purpose, so close work during or after digestion has shortage of nutrition to eyes, thus this lack of nutrients to the eyes, weak eye muscles and thus cloudy vision.

Do not read when tired or sick:
Weak bodily energy weakens the entire system. Reading during illness or fatigue weakens the focusing eye muscles.

Avoid reading more than thirty minutes at a time:
Thirty minutes is about maximum time the eyes can handle without strain or fatigue. So practice some eye relaxation exercises in between to avoid eye strains.

Rising or falling Sunshine is Food for the Eyes:
It is nourished and healed by its warm radiating energy. So it is always best to expose yourself and particularly your eye to the sunlight to nourish it.

Eye exercise & Eye massages:
Eye exercise and or massages gives some physical exercise, better blood flow and thus high nutrients to our eye muscles thus they regain its lost elasticity.

My best wishes for your good eye vision and enjoyable natural life.

Tips to Maintain Optimal Eye Health

Looking after your eyes is very important to ensure general good health and t avoid a range of difficulties in your day to day life. Our vision is very crucial to us for going about our regular business, and if you don't keep it in check then you might struggle with tasks like reading, driving and using the computer at work.

Still though, our eyes can deteriorate like anything else and particularly if we don't look after them. Here then we will look at some ways you can protect your eye health and avoid needing glasses sooner than necessary.

Eat Well
Eating correctly doesn't just benefit your gut, it can help other aspects of your health too all the way down to your vision. Eating things like blueberries can greatly improve your vision, for instance in this case blueberries contain something called 'anthocyanosides' which have been proven to help avoid macular degeneration, cataracts, myopia and all kinds of other eye problems. The antioxidants here can also protect your eye health by avoiding damage for your eye cells caused by free radicals. Make sure then that you maintain the best diet possible and get lots of colourful fruits and super foods in there to avoid losing your eyesight before your time.

Straining
You should avoid straining your eyes as much as possible and this means making sure that you don't concentrate too hard for too long without making arrangements to limit the damage. For instance then, if you use a computer a lot then you can reduce the strain you place on your eyes by making sure that you take a break at least every fifteen minutes, and by making sure that your positioned so that it will avoid glare (that means making sure you don't have windows behind you) and that you use a glare protector when you can't do that.

Meanwhile you can also help your eyes by using large fonts on your devices, and by making sure that the contrast is high. When you're watching TV or playing computer games it's the change in brightness that can place strain on our eyes and be hard for us to adjust to, so make sure you have the lights on rather than watching in a dark room and in this case turn the contrast down.

UV
Another thing that can damage your eyes of course is UV rays, and it's very important to make sure that you don't look directly at the sun or too near it too often. Invest in some good sun glasses and make sure that you actually wear them when you need to.

Checkups
Getting regular checkups can help your eye health a lot, and by catching problems early you can have the necessary surgery to fix them. For instance in the case of something like cataracts this can often be relatively easily treated by surgery, but when it progresses beyond a certain point it becomes more difficult. Go regularly and do what you have to do to secure your long term eye health.

Tips for Perfect Eyebrows

Eyebrows are one of the first things that you'll notice about a person. These seemingly useless patches of hair frame the eyes and at most times provide good non-verbal communication. For example, a raised eyebrow can convey the message of doubt or confusion while eyebrows that curve down in the center can make you look just plain angry. Ever been browless? Yeah, not a good look for anyone.

For eyebrows that have been over-plucked, most partiers that have had their eyebrows shaved off while in a drunken slumber say that their brows grew back in about two to three months. However, there are over-the-counter products as well as tricks to help the hair grow faster. Recommended products include Rogaine, Talika Lipocils, and Enormous Lash. To stimulate hair follicles, some recommend using a soft brush (toothbrush) and castor/olive oil. Let the brow grow "wild" for three months. Cover unwanted stragglers with concealer in the meantime so you don't appear to be unkempt.

Trimming
Many women skip the trim which can actually save you a lot of plucking time. Not trimming can also result in removing too much hair when in actuality you need just remove bulk. Use a brow brush to brush hair up. Trim any rogue hairs that fall outside of your main shape.

A Tip Before You Tweeze
Use concealer while you complete the following steps on shaping. This way you don't have to just imagine what your finished brows will look like, you can actually look yourself in the mirror and decide if you like what you see.

Where to start?
Visualize a straight line from the outer sides of the bulb of your nose up. This is where your brow should start. For eyes that are set a little wider apart, this will help to make them appear to be closer together. Remember, more space between the brows will result in the illusion of a big forehead.

The Arch
Take a ruler or straight object like your eyeliner and line up the tip of your nose with the pupil of your eye. Where the ruler lands on your eyebrow is where the peak of your arch should exist. For a medium arch, line up the nose and the middle of your pupil. For a larger arch, line up the nose and far end of your pupil (closest to ear).

Ending
All good things come to an end. Line up the outer edge of your nostril with the outer corner of your eye. Where the ruler or straight object falls on your eyebrow is where you should end your eyebrow. If your eyebrow falls a little short, don't worry! Use a brow pencil to fill in the empty space until the hair grows in. While darker eyebrows can give the appearance of youth, be weary of over doing the brows and steer clear of the I-drew-my-eyebrows-on-with-a-Sharpie look. Tip: Don't like the shiny look of the brow pencil? Take some black or brown matte eye shadow and use an angled brush to gently blot on the shiniest of areas.

Home Remedies for Pink Eye

Pink eye, technically referred to as Conjunctivitis is condition when the conjunctiva becomes inflamed. This means that the region that lines the eyelid and surrounds the white portion of eye gets irritated. This eventually results in pain, excessive tearing as well as itching. This disease is a result of certain kind of viral infection. Other possible sources behind its outcome are allergies or bacterial infections. This disease can also surface on the eyes of toddlers.

The bacterial as well as viral conjunctivitis are highly contagious and therefore, they primarily affect the children. It gets tough to keep a track of the spread and in case of children it often spreads to both the eye.
Prominent Causes

Some of the most prominent causes of this problem are:
  • Virus
  • Bacteria
  • Presence of some irritation causing substance in the eyes
  • Ophthalmia neonatorum
  • Allergies
  • STDs
Some Home Remedies
  • You can add a table spoon of chamomile flower in dried form to a cup of lucid warm water. Steep the components for over 10 minutes. Stain the mixture then and let it cool. You should thereafter make use of this solution as eyewash. This would certainly bring in a considerable improvement in the intensity of your problem.
  • Elderberry-blossom tea is a yet another significant substance that you can use in order to treat your problem of conjunctivitis. This is highly effective and soothes your eye too.
  • You can also make use of fennel seeds. You can boil them and thereafter you can wash the affected section directly. This would considerably lower the intensity of inflammation and at the same time it would also reduce the amount of redness.
  • You can put some shone drops in your eye directly, preferably one or at maximum two. You can alternatively add around 3 table spoons to lucid warm water and then stir the mixture. Let this mixture cool and thereafter use it to wash your eyes one or two times in a day. Honey has some effective anti-bacterial properties and for the same reason, it significantly soothes the infected portion of the eye.
  • Warm milk can also be used for this purpose.
  • You can grate some raw potato into fine slices and thereafter you can place these on your affected portion. Potato is one of the most effective astringent agents and hence, you can place its poultice on the effected region for quite some time.
  • You can also develop a turmeric solution using 2 table spoons of the powder and using boiling water as solvent.
  • Dip a piece of cloth in a solution of Aloe Vera and thereafter apply it gently on the infected region. You can also use this mixture as a substitute to eyewash.
  • You can also make use of some fine artificial tear causing agents as these can help you in ejecting some unwanted irritants and toxins.
  • In order to get an instant relief you can make use of a solution of baking soda which can be made using 1 table spoon of the soda content and dissolving it in apt amount of water.
